The Costa Blanca area of Spain is one of the wealthiest in the country. Tourism earns considerable returns for the locals and property prices are high, in particular around Torrevieja. The weather has a lot to do with this. The sun is said to shine 320 days a year. The area is famous for its beaches and golf courses (the Villamartin golf course hosted the 1994 Mediterranean Open) but the region has much more to offer.
Chinese inbound tourism is the most important emerging travel market and the tremendous increase of Chinese tourists (100 million by 2020) will change tourism globally. Yet an industry assessment by Yaxley Consulting has found that many UK tourist venues, retail stores and hotels are not marketing to this key new customer and are ill equipped to serve Chinese tourist needs. Simple actions are recommended for businesses seeking the significant long-term growth from becoming ‘Chinese friendly’.
